UCL History is recruiting for the post of Associate Lecturer (Teaching) to teach the following module: Translation and Direct Reading I (HIST0453) and Translation and Direct Reading II (HIST0454)

These are MA modules: HIST0453 taught over term one and HIST0454 taught in term two in a weekly two hour seminar format.  Both modules are delivered through the medium of English.

The appointee will focus primarily on English-Chinese translation, and will also provide support, if required, with Classical Chinese text reading. They will collaborate closely with a native English speaker who will deliver the Chinese-English element of the module.  Additionally, the successful candidate will carry out administrative responsibilities within the department, as directed by the Head of Department.

The post is available from 1 September 2022 and funded for 12 months in the first instance.

Applicants must have Chinese (Mandarin) as a first or best language; a good knowledge of Classical Chinese; written and spoken fluency in English; experience of English-Chinese translation; previous experience of teaching in a relevant specialism in an English-medium environment; previous experience of small group teaching; a commitment to high-quality teaching, fostering a positive learning environment.
