About the role

At Derby Business School, we are continuing to expand across each of our subject areas. We are therefore looking to attract the very best talent to come and contribute to our future growth and share in our exciting future. We are looking for Associate Lecturers to teach on our programmes in the area of Economics and International Business, in particular on the following modules: 

  • Business Economics (Level 4, Year 1)
  • Market Economics and Key Mathematical Concepts (Level 4, Year 1)
  • Quantitative Skills for Business (Level 5, Year 2)
  • International Economics Environment (Level 6, Year 3)
  • Critical Analysis in an International Business context (Level 6, Year 3)
  • Financial Risk Management (Level 6, Year 3)
  • Global Business and Strategy (Level 6, Year 3)

As part of your role, you will be required to provide support on a specified module or modules, including the preparation and delivery of lectures, workshops, seminars, and practical sessions. You will also be required to assist in the marking of student assessments.

Actual hours and days will be described in a schedule of work.


Principal accountabilities

Duties may include any of the following:

  • Formal scheduled delivery of Teaching, Lectures or Workshops.
  • Preparation of teaching materials required in the delivery of the above.
  • Preparation of Reading Lists.
  • Responsibility for keeping of University records, reports or returns as appropriate including marks and notes are submitted to the module leader for assessment boards.
  • Contribution to assessment design as appropriate.
  • Marking, moderation and electronic submission of marks as required.
  • Supervision of Doctoral Research.
  • Responsibility for tutorials.
  • Student Support.
  • Independent Studies supervision.
  • Attendance at the following Boards/Meetings, where it is appropriate and where they can be arranged to fit in with other commitments: Development / training meetings and events; Probation and Development Review; Programme Committees and Subject/Team Meetings; Any relevant meetings associated with internal and/or external periodic scrutiny such as QAA; College Research Committee; College Research Ethics Committee; Assessment Boards.
  • To comply with the requirements of Health & Safety, other relevant legislation and University documentation.

    Essential Criteria
    Qualifications
    • A first degree in a discipline appropriate to the discipline being taught or equivalent professional experience.

    Experience
    • Experience of working in an industry related to the discipline being taught and/or previous lecturing experience in FE/HE.

    Skills, knowledge & abilities
    • Ability to teach at the appropriate level.
    • Ability to relate theory to practice.
    • Ability to work to deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good presentation skills.

    Desirable Criteria
    Qualifications
    Experience
    • Experience of teaching students in an HE context including small group facilitation.

    Skills, knowledge and abilities
    • Skills and knowledge relevant to the discipline of Economics and International Business within an economics context.
    • Ability to use digital teaching applications and platforms.
