We are now seeking an experienced policy and practice professional to lead public and policy engagement through knowledge exchange, industry collaboration and commercialisation of intellectual property in the Adam Smith Business School. You will also lead on identifying new challenge/knowledge exchange/partnership areas, support knowledge exchange activities, and designing a broader capacity building programme that could be delivered across Adam Smith Business School in future years.

Job Purpose

In collaboration with Director of Research & Engagement and the school, lead the continuing development of the School’s engagement with policy makers, organisations and associations, with a specific focus on identifying opportunities for establishing new engagements as well as strengthen current engagement (partnership) for instance with knowledge exchange partnership (KTP) applications, Innovate UK proposals,, supporting the school’s research and engagement, and participating as collaborators or codevelopers in applied research and knowledge-exchange projects. Contribute strategically to enhancing the Adam Smith Business School’s reputation, including with school-wide rankings, and feeding back to engagement development, lead and support knowledge exchange activities, co-creating research projects with end users and beneficiaries of the research to support and enhance the school’s reputation. Evaluate the prospects for and scope of an engagement and ecosystem development, including defining and engaging with different organisations and policy makers. Support the development and implementation of a new School Engagement Advisory Board, informed by a benchmarking of good practice among peer and aspirant business schools internationally.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Take a leading role in guiding the Adam Smith Business School’s engagement and knowledge exchange strategy.

2.  Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint industrial based research projects of international standard, participating actively in the development of School research engagement strategy.

3.  Contribute fully to strategic initiatives underpinning School/College/University strategies for engagement and innovation.

4.  In collaboration, support bids for major projects to bodies such as UKRI which include a major KE/innovation dimension (e.g. the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and Global Challenges Research Fund).

5.  Develop collegiality across the School, along with relationships in other key industry partner schools, by building effective internal and external networks and collaborations that support the development and mentoring of academic staff for engagement and knowledge & exchange activities.

6.  Represent the School/College/University on key external bodies and at external events (regional, national and international) to promote excellence in business school research and teaching and the development of professional practice.

7.  Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.

8.  Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Director of Research and Engagement.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 9,10 or 11, equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of leadership experience in strategic management.

A2 An established and internationally recognised reputation for high-quality business and policy engagement.

A3  Knowledge, Skills and Experience Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major industrial research activities.

A4 A track record of enhancing the reputation of a business school internationally, including through rankings.

Desirable

B1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) together with an AMBA-accredited MBA or equivalent.

C1 Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels within the Subject, School, College, University, and beyond, in the academic, policy, and practitioner communities.

C2 Demonstrably excellent presentation skills.

Experience

Essential

E1 A track record of reports (national and international) compatible with enhancing the School’s profile among businesses and policy-makers.

E2 Experience of research and engagement and participation with international collaborations.

E3 Track record of successful project management of engagement projects to completion.

E4 Evidence of a leadership role contributing to the academic mission of the University (e.g. innovations; implementing improvements in practice or impact in a specific discipline, supporting reputation enhancement).

E5 Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues to engagement activities with practise.

E6 Organisation of workshops, industry and policy events locally and internationally.

E7 Contributions to public and industry engagement that advance the understanding of the business schools.

E8 Contributions to university-wide initiatives, projects, workstreams or committees aimed at enhancing the university’s impact or reputation locally or internationally.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 9, £57,696 - £64,914 per annum pro rata.

This post is part time (7 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 12 months from start date.
