The Role

Teaching and supporting the delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience. Assistant Teaching Fellows focus on aspects of the student learning experience including delivery of lectures, tutorials, support sessions and marking, as well as final project supervision.

Based within the School of Mechanical Engineering, you will be committed to contributing to our continued success and supporting students as appropriate through informal and formal communication. You will deliver and help develop courses which foster a first-class educational experience while nurturing and producing industry-ready graduates.

Qualifications Required

  • Honours Degree in an appropriate subject OR (if from a professional practice background) industrial experience at an equivalent level with an appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
  • A teaching qualification or evidence of supporting student success and be willing to undertake a Higher Education teaching qualification if not already qualified
  • Professional Body membership is advantageous as is experience of working in an educational practice or a consultancy role or having a higher-level qualification such as a MSc/PhD.

Our Successful Candidate

The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the delivery of topics relating to our mechanical engineering curriculum, with a focus on Finite Element Analysis theory and practice, using multiple software packages. You will develop your abilities in module delivery and project supervision, including supporting FE modelling and wider analytical modelling techniques. Knowledge of FE software such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, HYPERMESH, etc. is essential. Knowledge of other engineering software tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK, etc. is beneficial.

This post is teaching centred and will be attractive to academics or industrialists, wishing to move into teaching and expand their focus on pedagogic practice.

You will work effectively as a team member with good level of digital fluency and have experience creating teaching materials for face to face and online teaching using a VLE.
