The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. We wish to appoint an Assistant Research Audits, Processes and Systems Manager to oversee the processes, audit and system needs of the School’s portfolio of research grants and consultancies.

The ARAPSM is responsible for supporting the Research Audits, Processes and Systems Manager (RAPSM) to lead the Research Operations Office (ROO) in the delivery of research administration services for the School.  ROO manages a research grant portfolio of over £500m and annual research income of around £100m.  It plays a critical role both in supporting research activity across the School, and ensuring compliance with funder terms and conditions and coordinating the assessment and management of risks. ROO is a central service which provides support across the School to those involved in research management.  It operates in teams that encompass both the pre-award area (research applications and contract review) and the post-award area (financial and contract administration).

This is a busy and varied role which requires the post holder to support our Internal and External Audit Requirements, with the support of the Research Service Administrator. In addition to this responsibility, working with Research Funding Manager and the Research Finance Manager, the successful candidate will identify and implement changes required to improve effectiveness and efficiency, improving the information and training that is available on research administration and to find new ways of promoting good practice. As well as working closely with office colleagues, the post holder is expected to build strong relationships with staff from other areas of the School and to work collaboratively with them to develop more integrated research management system.

This is the ideal role for an accomplished research administrator with a detailed knowledge and experience of the financial aspects of research project management within a HEI, strong analytical skills and practical experience of systems and procedural change.  We are looking for a strong communicator who can demonstrate judgement, initiative and creativity and who has the ability to disseminate complex information clearly and effectively.

The post is full time and permanent.

The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale Grade 6 in the range £40,611 - £46,119 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Applications should be made on-line via our website at http://jobs.lshtm.ac.uk . Online applications will be accepted by the automated system until 10pm of the closing date. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to [email protected]

The supporting statement section should set out how your qualifications, experience and training meet each of the selection criteria. Please provide one or more paragraphs addressing each criterion. The supporting statement is an essential part of the selection process and thus a failure to provide this information will mean that the application will not be considered. An answer to any of the criteria such as "Please see attached CV" will not be considered acceptable.

Please note that if you are shortlisted and are unable to attend on the interview date it may not be possible to offer you an alternative date.
