Education Policy and Quality is at the heart of the University’s Education Group: our purpose is to support the delivery of our education strategy; develop educational policy; and to assure and enhance our educational provision in order to contribute positively to our student experience. The Assistant Registrar (Assessment) is vital to our delivery of our education strategy because of the cross-cutting importance of assessment to our educational provision. We are looking for a dynamic university manager to ensure that our regulation, policy, procedures and systems relating to the assessment of students are fit for purpose and continuously improved.
You will be a talented professional with a commitment to the delivery of a high-quality service, who appreciates the importance of the student experience. You will be able to communicate clearly and persuade gently but effectively. You will be an enthusiastic team player but also be able to work independently and have the confidence to drive change autonomously. You will have recent experience of quality assurance and enhancement operations in a higher education environment and be able to retain your focus and prioritise effectively within a broad and busy portfolio.

Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
You will maintain oversight of policy, practice and systems relating to the assessment of students as part our team’s development of University’s educational policy and practice more generally. With a high degree of autonomy to deliver projects, draft policy and coach colleagues in support the team’s agreed priorities, you will have a demonstrable impact on enhancing the experience of students and those who teach and support them, as well as on maintaining the University’s high academic standards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• To ensure that regulation, policy, procedures and systems relating to the assessment of students are fit for purpose and continuously improved.
• To coordinate projects relating to assessment and directly plan, manage and deliver a number of those projects.
• To develop expertise on our approach to assessment and developments more widely in the sector, providing support and guidance to colleagues as required.
• To have oversight of the University’s use of and engagement with External Examiners for taught courses, ensuring the approach operationalised through academic and other professional service departments remains fit for purpose and compliant with national regulatory frameworks.
• To develop and oversee the effective functioning of Boards of Examiners, including through the delivery of training to staff who are members of or support boards.
• To contribute to academic governance by servicing committees or boards as requested.
• To contribute to the wider Education Policy and Quality team and Education Group’s delivery of projects, process improvements and peak periods in business as usual activity.
• To undertake other duties as periodically required, including contributing to major University events such as a Degree Congregation, Open Days and examination invigilation.
