The New College of Humanities at Northeastern wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor in Psychology. The appointee will develop and deliver teaching in a range of areas of Psychology, and provide service to the institution and the profession. This role is available up to 1.0 FTE. The appointment fraction is dependent on candidate expertise level and ability to complete workload.

We wish to appoint a specialist in any area of Psychology. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Psychology to one or more of the following areas: software and/or technology; employment contexts; diversity and inclusion.

Core duties will include: delivering teaching for a number of sections of the introductory course, Foundations of Psychology, and perhaps Clinical or Developmental Psychology; contributing to the development of a major and/or masters in Psychology at the College; and providing service through contributions to e.g. Faculty and committee meetings, open days, admissions interviews, etc.

We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction/job-share basis subject to our business needs.

Department

The discipline of Psychology is institutionally housed within the Faculty of Philosophy at NCH (along with Computer and Data science). The Faculty currently offers a minor concentration in Psychology, as well as undergraduate courses intended for visiting students; it plans to expand its offerings to include a major, and perhaps a masters, in the near future. There are ample opportunities within the Faculty for interdisciplinary collaboration in relation to both teaching (for instance, on the BA Philosophy and Cognitive Science) and research (e.g. within the Cognitive Science Research Group). Faculty members have established connections across the Northeastern University global network, including within the College of Science’s Department of Psychology.

Founded in 2012, New College of the Humanities has established itself as a prestigious higher education institution based in the heart of London. After becoming part of Northeastern University’s global network in early 2019, the College has undergone a period of rapid growth, having been granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers in February 2020 and moved to a new, state-of-the-art campus in 2021. NCH continues to grow further expanding its student cohort, courses, network and opportunities.

Qualifications

● PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area.

● Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses
