The Department of Anthropology at Durham University seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor (Research) - Research Fellow in Hydrogen Innovation and would welcome applications from those with experience and expertise in energy research, especially concerning social, environmental and governance issues related to energy infrastructure development. Knowledge of hydrogen development will be welcome.

The role

The Assistant Professor (Research) - Research Fellow in Hydrogen Innovation position is funded jointly by Research England and Durham University to work with industrial partners within the Teesside Industrial Cluster to support the development of Teesside's Hydrogen Economy and Catalyse a Just Transition to Net Zero.

The successful candidate will be line-managed by Professor Simone Abram but will be an independent researcher, expected to carry out high quality work closely with academic colleagues across departments/faculties and with industrial partners. They will be able to contribute to a number of research projects and will share responsibility for them being successfully delivered on time, within budget and meeting all objectives. The core of the research will address the social (broadly defined) issues related to the development of a hydrogen economy on Teesside, and will entail engagement with relevant actors both to shape the research questions and for empirical research, leading to peer-reviewed publications. The appointee will have direct engagement with industrial partners but will also interact with other stakeholders, such as policy makers as part of the project. The role will be based at the Durham City campus
