Full time starting salary is normally in the range £42,149 to £50,296, with potential progression once in post to £56,587

Summary of Role
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the whole range of research, teaching and administration within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences across a range of sporting e.g. youth, grassroots, performance and exercise e.g. community, school contexts
They will be expected to develop, conduct and disseminate original research in the area of sport and exercise psychology as it relates to mental health that will lead to the growth of their own national reputation as well as enhancing the school’s external profile. The post holder will be expected to generate income through research and/or commercial funding and to attract and supervise high-quality PhD and doctoral students.
Teaching duties will include a focus on psychology and mental health in the context of sport and exercise with the potential to deliver teaching on both on our Edgbaston and Dubai campuses. The role holder will be expected to contribute to module development and management and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The appointed individual will be provided with opportunities to develop both themselves and their leadership and management skills within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences.
Main Duties
Research
• To plan and carry out high quality research, using appropriate methodology and techniques.
• Pursue personal research including developing research ideas and winning support, including financial support for research.
• Plan, execute and publish high quality research outputs.
• Manage personal research activities.
• Supervise and examine PhD students, both within the institution and externally
• Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
• Develop and make substantial contributions to impact and engagement into sport, exercise and/or community settings.
Learning and Teaching
To deliver teaching in the area of sport and exercise psychology using a variety of methods to groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students. Where appropriate this may include:
• Teaching and examining courses at a range of levels
• Planning and reviewing own teaching approaches
• Development of module proposals and making contributions to the design of teaching programmes more widely in the School
• Use of appropriate approaches to learning and teaching in their field
• Devising and supervising projects, student dissertations and practical work
Management/Administration
To contribute to School administration, this may include:
• Contribution to the administration/management of research and/or teaching across the School
• Contribution to devising and implementing new and/or revised teaching and research processes.
• Contribution to the development of external relationships with key stake holders in the sport, exercise and wellbeing sectors.
Person Specification
Essential
• Doctoral qualification in a related area.
• Experience of research in or application of psychological support in a range of sport e.g. grassroots, college/university, high-performance or exercise environments.
• Experience and achievement reflected in a growing reputation in a research area related to mental health and wellbeing in sport and exercise.
• Evidence of having contributed to the delivery of externally funded projects
• Experience of post-graduate supervision at masters and doctoral level ideally in projects related to mental health and wellbeing in sport and exercise.
• Experience of leading and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching
• Ability to conduct and manage own and original research
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching modules.
• Excellent academic writing skills for publication of research articles in high impact journals
• Excellent organisation and time-management skills
Desirable:
• Evidence of contributing to the development of successfully funded research projects
• Established research partnerships with external organisations.
• BASES (Psychology) or BPS accreditation.
• Ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
• Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
