College Profile:

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses nine departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences including English Literature and Linguistics, Arabic Language, Mass Communication, History, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, International Affairs, Policy, Planning and Development, Statistics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. The College also houses Master Programs, which are M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, M.A. in Gulf Studies, M.A. in Arabic Language and Literature, M.Sc. in Materials Science and Technology, and M.Sc. in Applied Statistics. In addition to a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Gulf Studies. Additionally, the College offers a Program of Arabic for Non- Native Speakers. Also, there are two established research centers namely the Center for Sustainable Development and the Gulf Studies Center.

It is worth mentioning that as members of Qatar University, CAS faculty members have excellent opportunities to secure internal and external funding for their research ideas. Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is major source of research funding, with individual project funding limit exceeding 600,000$/ project  along with student research funding programs. As the national and largest University in the country, Qatar University is the recipient of most of QNRF awards, with many research- active faculty members able to win multiple grants.

Department Profile:

The Department of Humanities at Qatar University, Doha, invites applications for a full time position at the level of Assistant Professor in Modern History. The position is three years renewable. Primary responsibilities will include developing and teaching classroom-based and online courses in Modern History with demonstrated teaching excellence and a commitment to scholarship. 

Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching. Candidates must have a PhD degree in Modern History with special emphasizes on Middle East and MENA region. Preference will be given to candidates who have a track record of excellent publication and possess the potential and willingness to collaborate with faculty within and across departmental divisions. Priority will be given to candidates who fluent in both Arabic and English.
Duties & Responsibilities         

  • Play a role in relevant teaching and research supervision.
  • Offer lectures and seminars at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 
  • Contribute to enhancing the quality of the research environment in the Department and the wider University.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development.
  • Carry out such other duties as specified by the Head of Department.
  • Monitor the academic performance of undergraduate students. 
  • Competencies: 

  • Specialized in Modern History (Middle East and MENA region) with a solid knowledge in related discipline at the under graduate level.
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Expertise in using course management system such as Blackboard
  • Proficiency in both Arabic Language and English 
  • Qualifications         

  • The candidate should hold a PhD degree in Modern History from an internationally recognized university.
  • Experience in teaching a wide range of courses in History and related disciplines.
  • Competency and involvement in research.
  • Fluency in Arabic Language.
  • Fluency in English language.
