Job Description

The Department of Media & Creative Industries at CHSS seeks to make an appointment to an Assistant Professor with qualifications and experience in Game Design & Development (Unity and Maya) and other media-related applications. Experience with Internship and Capstone courses is also needed. Experience in teaching Business for Art courses would be advantageous. The role holder will be a member of The College of Humanities & Social Sciences. They will be a recognized authority in their field, developing and maintaining a high-profile external profile and will become a leading member of a dynamic, cutting-edge research culture, having access to the excellent research facilities which UAEU offers. They will have a vital role to play in the development and achievement of CHSS within the context of the strategic goals of UAEU, leading research and scholarship in their field. They will be expected to lead on advanced, internationally excellent research projects, securing high impact research funding, to teach and to supervise at the undergraduate level, contribute to admissions, examining and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both the Visual Studies & Creative Industries Department and the CHSS College.

Minimum Qualification

PhD in Art and Media or similar, with experience in game design and in knowledge of software applications for virtual and augmented reality and social media applications. Individuals should demonstrate consistent scholarly/creative activity, receiving national/international recognition in their field. Active experience with the game industry is preferred.

Applicants should have 3 or more years of experience practicing game programming in Unity with expertise in code patterns and production techniques critical to game development.

Preferred Qualification

Specific desired areas of expertise include:

  • Unity Development, including C# Scripting, especially in the creative artistic areas.
  • Development for PC, web, and mobile devices using Unity.
  • Experience with other standard game technologies including the Unreal engine and Javascript gaming libraries.
  • Physics programming for game applications.
  • Server engineering experience, including database creation and use and multiplayer infrastructure.
