Learner and Discovery Services (LDS) is the award-winning unit of The Open University responsible for the production and delivery of the University’s curriculum; it also has a central role in the design of learning materials.

The role 

The Open University are recruiting an Assistant Producer, on a Fixed Term Contract (12 months).

  • Creation of in-house AV assets from planning to final delivery of materials to OpenLearn, coordinating delivery of materials and archiving of content. Negotiating timescales, delivery and style of all AV created. Support outsourced 3rd party production of all AV assets associated with OpenLearn courses.
  • In-house creation of bespoke animations for OpenLearn and coordinate delivery of these to Editors and archiving of materials to OUs LMS.
  • Creation of bespoke OpenLearn courses (including Badged Open Courses) and course conversions, developing all materials for OpenLearn courses. Working alongside editorial colleagues to final delivery.
  • Development of materials for OpenLearn, creation of assets and developing content for the OpenLearn site on Articles and Hubs to push for higher engagement.

Skills and experience

  • Training in online publication including use of XML and Moodle.
  • Understanding of studio and non-studio audio and video production of assets and related editorial content.
  • Day to day experience of publishing with Moodle to deliver XML structured and tagged content to live websites.
  • Asset management trained.
  • Good knowledge of online educational content production processes and skills required to produce high quality educational materials.
  • Experience of Adobe Creative Cloud platform – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro
