The School of Law at Birmingham City University is a large, vibrant and diverse community of legal scholarship, learning and practice with a strong commitment to excellence, innovation and transformation through legal research and education. The School provides academic and professional legal education across all levels, from foundation year to PhD, including our flagship LLB, LLM and LPC programmes. The School is home to well over a thousand students, and has trained many of the legal professionals in the region and beyond.
The School is currently looking to appoint one or more outstanding candidates to teaching fellow positions within the School for a one-year fixed term period. The successful candidate(s) will contribute to all areas of activity within the School connected to teaching and student experience, and will also have the opportunity to develop in other fields of strategic importance. We would particularly encourage applications from candidates with a passion for innovative and transformative legal education, whether they come from a research, teaching or practice background. We welcome candidates with a specialist focus in any field of law, but particularly encourage applications from candidates who can deliver core modules on our academic and professional programmes, or who can contribute to teaching in our specialist areas.
Alongside our flagship LLB and LPC courses, we are extremely proud of our signature specialist pathways at undergraduate and LLM level. We have LLB programmes which provide a focus on Criminal Justice, Business Law and American Law. We also have a suite of research-led academic LLMs in International Human Rights Law, International Business Law and International Law, alongside specialist pathways within our LLB portfolio. The School has a research- and practice-led philosophy regarding teaching, and encourages colleagues to develop and deliver teaching in their fields of passion and expertise. Our entire suite of undergraduate programmes has recently been redesigned to allow students to enjoy a curriculum which reflects the expertise of the academic community of the School. The School also has a proud tradition of professional legal education and is home to a large Law Clinic.
The School is home to the extremely influential BCU Centre for Human Rights and the innovative, multidisciplinary Centre for Law, Science and Policy. The School has also long been the leading British hub of expertise in American Legal Studies and hosts both the Centre for American Legal Studies and the British Journal for American Legal Studies.
We would encourage all qualified candidates to apply, regardless of previous experience. For Informal enquiries regarding the role should be addressed to Dr Sarah Cooper ([email protected]), Director of Research in the School of Law.
