Assistant Lecturer in Criminology - 18 hours per week, Fixed Term until 20th January 2023

With around 24,000 students, Birmingham City University is one of the UK's largest universities, providing teaching to students around the globe and producing research with international and national impact. Situated in Birmingham, the UK’s second city, we also have a long history of local interaction with the city and the wider West Midlands region. We pride ourselves on an inclusive and dynamic working environment, where we work hard to develop our staff.

The Department of Criminology and Sociology at Birmingham City University is home to a diverse and multi-disciplinary team and has a track record of success in research, knowledge exchange, teaching and public engagement.  This is an exciting opportunity to join an established but innovative provider of Criminology programmes. We encourage candidates with any specialism in Criminology and fellowship of the HEA would be desirable.

Candidates should possess a first and higher degree, and if not already in possession of a relevant doctorate qualification, it would be an advantage if candidates are close to completion of a doctorate, pending viva/examination within the next 6 months. Candidates will also be expected to be active and involved in research, scholarship and/or knowledge-transfer activities, and contribute to one of our Research Centres within the School of Social Sciences.

Further details:

The University is committed to internationalism and diversity and welcomes applications from all countries, faiths and backgrounds.

It is each individual successful applicants responsibility to ensure that they have permission to work in the UK. Some applicants may require sponsorship from the University and a visa from UKVI to take up the role if successful. More information on this can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

Some roles are not capable of sponsorship because they do not meet the UKVI criteria relating to skill and salary level. If you are unsure as to whether you would require sponsorship if successful, or whether the role is capable of sponsorship, please contact us: [email protected]

Please note on occasions where we receive a large number of applications, we may close the advert ahead of the publicised closing date. If this does happen, we will contact all candidates via email who have started but not yet completed their application, giving 48 hours’ notice.  We would therefore advise that you submit your completed application as soon as possible.
