The Finance Division is looking for an Assistant Financial Accountant to cover maternity leave for up to 9 months with a target start date of April 2024. This is an exciting development opportunity for the right individual to gain experience in the Financial Reporting Team in the role of Assistant Financial Accountant Investments.

Reporting to the Investment & Trusts Accountant, you will play a key role the internal and external financial reporting of the University.

The Assistant Financial Accountant Investments gives key support to the internal and external financial reporting of the University. Specifically the role will carry out management and financial accounting for investment accounting including the endowment fund (£3.5bn), spinout accounting and preparing the year end investment and endowment accounts.

In particular the role will provide support during the year-end audit with regards to the information to be supplied to the external auditors. This includes the production of key sections of the year end and quarterly accounts in support of the Investment and Trusts accountant and other members of the wider Financial Reporting team.

You will be a studying towards or be a qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent) with strong IT skills and experience of working in a large, complex accounting environment. 

You will enjoy working as part of a team and have strong communication skills making you able to work with colleagues with a wide range of financial skills and at all levels in the organisation.

Whilst the role is a Grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 or Grade 5 (G6: £32,332 - £38,205 p.a.; G5: £28,759 - £33,966 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.
