Assistant Director of Research Operations

About the Role

You will provide leadership of the Research Operations function, leading a professional research operations service providing specialist expertise to senior staff and researchers across the University, whilst leading the development of a new professional post-award project management service. Working alongside other members of the RIO senior management team, you will help to set the strategic direction and ensure a fully integrated RIO service.

About You

You will be educated to a degree level and have significant experience of developing and implementing research operations strategy and service. With excellent communication skills, you will build strong relationships with stakeholders across the University, and you will have expert knowledge of key financial management aspects of research and innovation, including intellectual property contractual management, commercial relationship frameworks and terms and conditions for key research and innovation sponsors.

The Research and Innovation office is a centralised service, supporting around 640 academic and research staff. With a team of just over 40, spread over three teams, we support research excellence partnerships and innovation, and pre-award research operations, including commercial partnerships.

We generate c. £42m each year in our research grant and contract funding. The heads of each service form the RIO senior management team and work closely with the Director to ensure an integrated and efficient service. Find out more here .
