The Institute of Inner City Learning is seeking to appoint an Assistant Dean (Quality and Enhancement) at its Birmingham Campus.

- THE ROLE –

The post holder will support the Senior Management team and provide leadership in particular within the areas of academic quality assurance and enhancement of the student learning experience. The post holder will also provide support on curriculum development, learning and teaching and on issues linked to the quality assurance of Collaborative Partnership provision, in accordance with the requirements of the Collaborative Partnership Office and the management team of the relevant Institute(s). The post holder will lead on policy aspects relating to assessment, external examiners, examining boards, quality review and enhancement, curriculum development / review, validations / revalidations, student representation and the student voice.

Main duties will include:

  • Provide leadership within the LC/BC on the quality assurance of all academic issues including but not limited to:
    • Programme development, monitoring, annual and periodic programme reviews
    • Auditing the LC/BC’s performance using KPI metrics and other relevant sources
    • Enhancement of the student learning experience
    • Student representation
    • Internal and external quality audits;
    • External examiners and examining boards
  • Lead the LC/BC’s compliance team to meet the requirements of the Academic Quality Handbook and the requirements of external bodies such as the QAA and other professional, regulatory and statutory bodies
  • Support and contribute to the work of the University’s professional departments, in particular the Academic Office and Student Services
  • Work closely with the management team of relevant Institute(s) to ensure equivalence and consistency in the implementation of quality assurance procedures and the academic regulatory framework with that of the Institute(s) for provision leading to the same award title
  • Contribute effectively to the efficient running of the LC/BC at strategic, operational and financial levels
  • Lead on a number of key strategic initiatives including but not limited to:
  • The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)
  • The National Student Survey (NSS), Graduate Outcomes survey and other national surveys linked to student experience and graduate employment
  • Processes and procedures for ensuring LC/BC compliance with central University regulations e.g. UKVI compliance, data protection

- REQUIREMENTS -

You should also have:

  • Masters level qualification.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of academic teaching practice and principles.
  • Proven management experience within a Higher Education (HE) or similar professional context.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to balance conflicting and complex strategic objectives, time and risk management.
