The role  

NU London wishes to appoint an Assistant or Associate Professor in Data Science. You will be teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide service to the discipline in line with the evolving needs and aspirations of the Faculty and University. 

Appointments will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching and service excellence.  

Core duties will include development and provision of innovative and inclusive teaching in relevant areas of Data Science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (e.g., Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced Programming with Data; Foundations of Data Science; Data Engineering; Human Computer Interaction; Information Visualisation; and Machine Learning); and professional service commensurate to career stage. Preference may be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of Data Science to one or more of the following areas: financial technologies, data-driven humanities and social sciences, cognitive science, information visualisation, machine learning, and applied engineering. 

Person Specification 

To excel in this role, you will have the following skills and experience, or transferable skills. 

For assistant professor: 

  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area.
  • FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)
  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching and service 

For associate professor:  

  • PhD completed, or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area.
  • FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected.
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake academic leadership tasks, including line management and leadership of strategic projects, as well as continuous professional development for such purposes.
  • Willingness and capacity to engage and develop working relationships with external partners and with colleagues across diverse disciplines in Northeastern University London and across the Northeastern University global network, as well as undertake continuous professional development for such purposes. 

Salary Comment:

Assistant Professor - £47,321 to £54,827, progressing to £58,155 once in post

Associate Professor - £56,467 to £69,404, progressing to £75,833 once in post

We are hoping to move to a timetable where Wednesday afternoon’s are available for student clubs/ activities and staff CPD.
