Job Description

The Directorate of Estates and Facilities is responsible for the upkeep of buildings and grounds within the University. The Department has 4 main functions:

Estates Management – Advising the University on the best use of its space and managing leases.

Capital Projects – Managing new building projects and major refurbishment projects within the existing estate.

E&F Operations – Maintaining the services and building infrastructure across the whole the estate including residences, managing the use of energy and water to reduce the University’s effect on the environment.

Providing a wide range of support services including catering, cleaning, portaging, postal and security services.

Customer and Commercial Services – Developing and Managing revenue activities including Conference and Events, Accommodation, Hospitality, and Sport. Leveraging the University estate by providing high quality services and support to external & internal markets

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, develop, and maintain the Electrical Distribution Systems inclusive of the Generative, maintained & secondary systems including standalone UPS services across the Estate.
  • Develop Engineering standards for Electrical Distribution Systems. Generative and maintained secondary & UPS services.
  • Provide Oversight and management of the vertical transport strategy across the Estate Via specialist our contactors and consultants.
  • Provide Oversight Guidance and management of Life safety system, Fire alarm, security, CCTV specialist DDA & Evacuation communication across the estate.
  • Develop maintenance standard and materials specification for Electrical Distribution Systems, Generative, maintained, secondary & UPS services across the Estate.
  • Carry out Life cycle audits, forward maintenance reviews as part of combined Estate asset and decarbonisation strategy.
  • Act as internal design consultant/advisor to Capital Projects, Engineering campus projects on agreed standard and operation system.
  • Input to campus and capital projects, Engineering campus projects, particularly at the design, commissioning, and handover stages. To ensure total building coordination with Estate Strategy.

Essential criteria

1.      Electrical Qualifications

2.      Strong Management experience

3.      Excellent communicator

4.      Proven track record of asset management in multi-building environments.

5.      Proven Budget management responsibility

6.      Experienced in M&E project Management.

7.      Excellent experience in Health & Safety Management.

Desirable criteria

1.      Experienced in renewables.

2.      Experienced in Listed Building environment.

3.      Experienced with vertical transport system and management.
