Department

The Academic Section is part of the University’s Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration and plays a central role in delivering the University’s commitment to excellence in education across the institution.

Duties of the Role

This is an opportunity to work as part of our central assessment team, providing support to students and staff in the preparation and delivery of exams. You will provide frontline support for students via Live Chat, telephone and emails using CRM.  There will be opportunities to contribute to improvement projects on how we deliver and organise exams, including developing guidance and communications; providing training; and reviewing procedures.  You will also support the wider assessment team in responding to assessment queries, supporting Exam Boards and the publication of students’ results, and the preparation for graduation and awards.

This role will form part of a job share arrangement. The post holder will be required to work part-time Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on an annualised hours basis.  During Exams the post holder will be required to work some Saturdays (advance notice will be given). Please note that continuation of a job share arrangement is dependent on there being two people available to undertake the arrangement.

Skills and qualifications required

We are looking for someone who has significant experience in a relevant role and who is organised with excellent attention to detail. You will be quick to learn complex policies and procedures, and be confident operating within these and providing advice and guidance. You will take pride in delivering high standards of service and have excellent communication and customer service skills.

You will be confident working in a busy environment with contact with students and a range of colleagues. You will have good, up-to-date IT skills with experience of using databases, although training will be given on our in-house systems.

At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.

To support this commitment we have our Global Forum , a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre , which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.
