The Film and New Media Program at NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for a full-time non-tenure track open-rank Arts Professor multi-year appointment in Film, New/Digital Media, and Digital and Interactive Media Studies.

We are looking for a scholar who works in the field of film and media history with a focus on documentary, experimental, interactive, and narrative modes, popular genres, digital technologies and platforms, genres and movements within and across diverse film cultures. Scholarship theorizing and historicizing film and media practices emerging from multiple regions through multiple disciplinary perspectives would add to our program’s strategy of anchoring our students in comparative histories, theories, and practices of film and media.

Applicants with training in disciplines such as Film/Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Visual Anthropology, Philosophy, History, and Legal Studies with an interest in popular Cultures, Studies of Nation Forms, Feminist and Gender Studies, and Post-colonial Studies would be a welcome addition to our program. We are equally interested in practitioners who are able to integrate studies and practice into the courses they offer to our students.

Applicants with experience in studying new digital platforms, interactive media practices, and mainstream media industries are encouraged to apply as well. We are interested in emerging work in areas such as digital storytelling, data stories, game studies, hacker culture, and research on social media.

The Film and New Media Program at NYUAD hopes to emerge as a unique location to foster exchange between film and digital media cultures of the MENA and Indian Ocean regions. Our students take both practice and studies courses and finish their degree with a Capstone project that reflects the cultural and historical context of their interests and studies. The Film and New Media program brings together the energy and charge of a multicultural education setting with students and faculty from across the globe in our classrooms and in our mentoring of students.
