Role Description

About the Roles

We have four roles available in three different areas. The purpose of all four roles is to discover and develop aptitudes and capabilities to be able to provide a premier technical provision to the labs and facilities in each of the areas. The roles are very hands on and requires problem solving, creative thinking, making parts, fixing and servicing equipment, and helping students and staff in the areas. 

SATM - School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing (2 roles)

These apprentice roles will develop you to be able to deliver technical support to our teaching by building and maintaining rigs and facilities, operation of machines and equipment, and supporting the running of experiments in our aerospace, transport and manufacturing areas.

SWEE - School of Water, Energy and Environment (1 role)

This apprentice role will develop you to be able deliver technical support for our research and teaching in both traditional and cutting-edge power generation technologies, such as combustion, solar, wave and hydrogen technologies.  You will be involved in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting a range of instrumentation and equipment.

CIC - Cranfield Impact Centre (1 role)

Cranfield Impact Centre is a limited company solely owned by the University.  This apprentice role will develop you to support mechanical testing activities and the preparation of tests by constructing jigs and building assemblies. You will be involved in preparing of test fixtures and post-test dismantling and perform general workshop tasks such as drilling, cutting and machining of metallic and composite structures.

Alongside these practical skills the role will also require the successful completion of a fully funded Level 3 Engineering Technician Advanced Apprenticeship. In the first year you will spend three days a week at college and two days a week on site at Cranfield. Thereafter you will spend one day a week at college and four days a week in Cranfield until the end of your apprenticeship.

About You

You will have a good standard of education evidenced by up to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (old grade C) and above including in Science, Mathematics and English (or equivalent level qualifications).

You will also have a keen interest in engineering and/or basic principles of a technical discipline and be prepared to study and commit to an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship.

A basic knowledge of computers and software, such as Microsoft Office and Teams, will be necessary for both study and work activities. You will be dependable and reliable with an enthusiastic and practical aptitude.
