Role Description
Do you like to take things apart, build Lego structures, build and fly drones, or enjoy making things? These are all great indications that you might like a career as a technician. We are looking for enthusiastic apprentices to join our technical community.
About the Role
The purpose of this role is to train and develop apprentices to be able to provide technical support to labs and facilities across the University. There are a wide variety of areas including aerospace, welding, automotive, mechanical testing, robotics, composites and many more. The role is very hands on and requires problem solving, creating thinking, making parts, fixing and servicing equipment and helping students and staff in the areas.
Alongside these practical skills the role will also require the successful completion of a fully funded Level 3 Engineering Technician Advanced Apprenticeship. In the first year you will spend three days a week at college and two days a week on site at Cranfield. Thereafter you will spend, one day a week at college and four days a week in Cranfield until the end of your apprenticeship.
About You
You will have a good standard of education evidenced by up to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (old grade C) and above including in Science, Mathematics and English (or equivalent level qualifications).
You will also have a keen interest in engineering and/or basic principles of a technical discipline and be prepared to study and commit to an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship.
A basic knowledge of computers and software, such as Microsoft Office and Teams, will be necessary for both study and work activities. You will be dependable and reliable with an enthusiastic and practical aptitude.
Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring has shown that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within engineering and the technical workforce and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.
To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we hold an Institutional Athena SWAN Bronze award, are members of Working Families, sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day and signatories of the Women in Defence and Women in Aerospace and Aviation Charters.
