1426721HNThe University of Southampton requires an apprentice to join its technical support team within the School of Ocean and Earth Science (SOES). You will be based primarily at the Waterfront Campus, providing technical support for a wide range of teaching and research activities within our Rock Preparation and Thin-Sectioning Laboratories and other workshop areas.
You will learn how to prepare thin and polished rock sections using a range of specialist equipment and methodologies, as well as learning other techniques to prepare hard materials for further analysis, e.g. cutting, coring, grinding, lapping and impregnation of unstable material. You will also work with our technical team to support teaching practical sessions in petrological and mineralogical based modules, setting up specialist equipment and preparing samples.
The apprenticeship will be a combination of learning on the job, guided by our highly experienced technical team, together with off the job training/study with our training provider Fareham College. On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will become a qualified Rock Preparation Technician and will have a full time permanent position at the University.
Salary:
Year 1: £6.61p/h (60%)
Year 2: £7.71p/h (70%)
Upon completion of apprenticeship: £11.01p/h (100%) Level 2B, Spine Point 13, £20,675 per annum.
