About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Gardener in the University Parks department.
You will be required to complete a two-year training programme that will cover all aspects of the role giving you an industry-recognised qualification for a real career foundation in this sector.
As an Apprentice Gardener, you will gain hands-on experience in a variety of horticultural activities as well as receive formal college based training to industry standards. You will learn how to carry out all forms of garden maintenance, grass and turf care, plant propagation, hard and soft landscaping. The department holds an extensive plant collection, which you will have the opportunity to work with. There is an extensive range of horticultural equipment that you will be trained to use in the course of the apprenticeship.
About the apprenticeship
As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Abingdon & Witney College where you will complete a Level 2 Horticulture Operative.
For this apprenticeship, you will work at the University Parks department in Oxford City Centre. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Abingdon & Witney College at their Common Leys campus near Witney. During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend University Parks Tentorium building 5 days a week.
In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.
Becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and training. For more information, please visit:https://www.apprenticeships.ox.ac.uk
You will be passionate about starting your career in Horticulture and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.
To complete the level 2 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. These qualifications are completed over 7 days. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon & Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process.
There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
