St Catharine’s College, situated in the heart of Cambridge, has an opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join our busy catering team.  The role will include assisting the Head Chef and the team, in the preparation and service of food.  Applicants must have a passion for food and a desire to learn and develop within a kitchen environment.

The successful candidate will receive full training, learning all aspects of the role including food safety, basic food preparation and cooking techniques.  In addition, the candidate will be working towards a Level 2 commis chef Apprenticeship which includes an NVQ Level 2, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1.  Candidates must have good verbal and written communication skills, a basic level of numeracy, good attention to detail, take pride in their work and be a team player.

In return, we will support the successful applicant to secure a college apprenticeship placement to undertake their professional vocational qualification.

This is a 2 year fixed term position to cover the duration of the apprenticeship and End Point Assessment period.

The hours per week as 40 of which there will be appropriate release time to attend college sessions and undertake 20% off the job learning. 

Some flexibility around working hours will be required to meet the needs of the department.  Some weekend work will be required but this will be confirmed when shift rotas are prepared.
