Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 29 Feb 2024

This exciting position provides a rare opportunity for a Clinical Researcher with strong organisational skills and leadership capability to join an established, multi-disciplinary team as part of the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU), working closely with Professor Sir Nicholas White.

The MORU Tropical Health Network, which hosts the ‘Thailand Wellcome Africa and Asia Programme’, conducts targeted clinical and public health research that aims to discover and develop appropriate, practical, affordable interventions that measurably improve the health of people living in resource-limited parts of the world.

You will be responsible for and coordinate the scientific research programme associated with the PLATCOV (SARS-CoV-2) and AD ASTRA (Influenza) trial, and other associated research activities, including developing studies for other viral diseases (including arboviral infections). The study is largely based in Thailand, but with sites in Laos, Nepal and Brazil. You will draft research protocols, SOPs, and other documents for the programme, as well as ensuring ethical, regulatory and other approvals are obtained in a timely manner. In addition, you will organize and chair routine meetings of the PLATCOV management group and report on the programme progress and challenges to the PLATCOV Trial Steering Committee. These studies have generated many exciting academic publications and would be a good opportunity for a motivated researcher to develop skills in clinical trials and develop an academic career. The post will be required to access clinical data and indirect patient contact, to support the scientific research programme.

To be successful in the role, you will be Research Physician (medically qualified and MRCP or equivalent), and you be a clinically qualified doctor and GMC registered with a licence to practice in the UK. You will be able to work independently and work to tight deadlines, and have strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ideally a candidate will be a specialist registrar in an infection-related speciality. In addition, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and you will be able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 3 years, and is funded by the Wellcome.
