We are looking for an experienced full-time Animal Technician to join Dr Irving Aye's lab at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Cambridge. Our main research interest is in understanding how metabolism influences placental development. This exciting opportunity is funded by the Medical Research Council. The post holder will be involved in the lab's research projects investigating the role of metabolic genes on mouse placental and fetal development.
Key responsibilities will include mouse colony management, mouse embryo handling and manipulation and routine procedures related to transgenic mouse production. The postholder will be expected to perform cell culture (including stem cells), immunoassays, western blotting, RT-PCR and other techniques according to the direction of the project, as well as train and assist other lab members or collaborators on the above techniques. Applicants should be educated to GCSE Level and hold a Home Office personal licence modules A-C or willing to work towards one.
Extensive experience working in a designated establishment with laboratory animals (work with IVC's / GA animals / species specifics) and carrying out Home Office licensed procedures is essential for this post. While not essential, familiarity with the Mouse Colony Management System database is desirable.
