The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine seeks to appoint a Senior Learning Technologist to be part of the Faculty Education Services (FES) Digital Education Team. Accountable for  the management of proactive operational planning and day to day coordination across Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and Digital Education activity. You will be responsible for the organisation and delivery of a service -centric provision ensuring  service levels are of a high standard across the Teams activity, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.   

You will support academics in the delivery of digital education processes and solutions to enable blended learning, teaching and e-assessment activity across the Faculty. The role line manages a team of learning technologists who provide Faculty support for KEATS (Kings e-learning & Teaching Service), the VLE (Moodle), facilitating the delivery of online content for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. 

The role includes academic and professional service staff support and training including provision of guidance for placement partner providers where necessary.  

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract   

This is a full-time  post - 100% full time equivalent


  • Supporting the Director of Technology Enhanced Learning, Academic Lead for Technology Enhanced Learning and Associate Director Education in the implementation of a digital education approach to the design, development and implementation of on-line resources and programme information resources to support all programmes running across the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine
  • Support the use of current and future virtual learning environments to support the education programmes as appropriate including planning, testing and implementation of novel solutions specifically related to eAssessment.
  • As advised, project manage multiple activities in support of the Faculty Educational Strategy involving diverse stakeholders, including students and external partners and be responsible for planning, organisation and delivery of solutions.
  • Coordinate Faculty BAU processes including annual module rollover processes, liaising with local and central professional service colleagues (IT, SED and CTEL) and ensuring effective communication strategies are used routinely to ensure all stakeholders are included.
  • Coordinate Faculty Short Course delivery requirements including liaison with School operational managers and identifying training needs.
  • Recruitment, line management of a team of specialists taking responsibility for their recruitment, induction, socialisation, annual leave, development and appraisal.
  • Coordination of day to day operational delivery of Digital Education activity (including 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support as required) across the Faculty (including leading on coordination and raising awareness of a range of assessment solutions and summative delivery as appropriate).
  • Close collaboration with all areas of Faculty Education Services (Programmes, Assessment, Quality and Student Experience and Support) and wider University directorates (IT, SED, CTEL) to ensure an agreed and joined up approach to the delivery of education and ensuring a scheduled training programme as part of workforce development.
  • Promotion of Digital Education activities as appropriate to a wider audience via internal websites, dissemination meetings, workshops.
  • Planning, development and organisation of training activities for academic and professional services staff in training and use of any systems developed or used and provide ad hoc advice where necessary.
  • To instigate operational service and process reviews as advised; leading on embedding a culture of continuous improvement and enabling all FES colleagues to be empowered to deliver enhancements.  Supporting with College initiatives as advised and attending College meetings/working groups as required. Consultation and liaison as required, identifying across a range of locations including NHS partner trusts.
  • As advised, to liaise with teaching staff to identify areas for curriculum enhancement in terms of electronic resource provision and delivery.
  • As advised, deputise for the Faculty Director of TEL at relevant committees and working groups.
  • As advised, represent Faculty business at relevant committees and working groups and provide regular reporting of activity.
  • To closely monitor and be aware of changes and developments in the curriculum and liaise with appropriate staff in King’s and at Partner Institutions and Trusts.
  • To provide regular progress reports and/or presentations as requested to appropriate education, other committees and Faculty line management.
  • To maintain usage and evaluation statistics, and liaise closely with students and staff concerning usability, quality, and usefulness of the systems.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

You will have a degree relevant to Digital Education or a related field (or significant equivalent relevant work experience). You will have a proven ability in both managing and providing TEL and VLE (Moodle or equivalent VLE) support across a range of technologies.

The role is responsible for operational planning and supporting  e-assessment solutions, delivering academic and professional services staff development training and you will demonstrate a track record of utilising TEL within a higher education context. In addition, you will have significant experience working within a healthcare/bioscience area and understand the complexities in delivering across a multi-site and multi-disciplinary organisational structure and will demonstrate leadership skills and a commitment to providing an exceptional level of service provision. You will be able to apply excellent communication and presentation skills across a range of stakeholders.

Essential criteria

1.  Advanced knowledge and skills related to all aspects of learning technology, e-assessment processes, web technologies and e-portfolios.

2.  Excellent communication and presentation skills, including a high standard of English both in formal documents and writing for the web in particular when conveying complex information to a lay/non-expert audience.

3.  Project management skills and knowledge, with demonstrable evidence of delivering projects on time and on budget.

4.  Thorough understanding of teaching and learning needs within the university environment and knowledge of the University lifecycle and processes including use and manipulation of analytical data to inform decision making processes.

5.  Proven ability to mobilise a team to produce high quality learning content, training, stakeholder support and service delivery.

6.  Excellent level of understanding of stakeholder needs and user experience (including accessibility and inclusivity of digital materials).

7.  Strong knowledge and understanding of online education pedagogy, curriculum design, and how technology can lead on the facilitation of learning.

8.  Previous experience of line managing a team, organising and chairing meetings across a range of stakeholders and to be able to negotiate and influence across organisational boundaries to deliver a timely positive outcome diplomatically.

9.  Extensive working experience of Moodle or equivalent VLE especially delivering high stakes assessment utilising a variety of delivery platforms.

10. Strong knowledge of web-development software and relevant programming languages and Frameworks (e.g. HTML,  Javascript, CSS, JQuery, Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite etc).

Interview dates will be January 2023 and will comprise a presentation and a panel interview.
