The purpose of this role at the School of Biomedical Engineering is to combine biophysical modelling, signal processing and machine learning techniques to predict outcome of atrial fibrillation ablation therapy.
This role requires technical expertise and research vision to develop an independent research programme.
- This role aims to build a large cohort of patient-specific models of atrial fibrillation and heart failure and to use these together with machine learning techniques to predict the outcome of different ablation treatment approaches.
- The post holder will manage collection of clinical data, analysis and storage.
- The post holder will manage international, national and local collaborations
- The post holder will provide supervision and training for junior lab members.
- The post holder will collaborate with clinical and engineering teams to apply for interdisciplinary funding.
This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 30th April 2025
This is a full-time post
• Constructing a large cohort of patient-specific biophysical models from imaging and electrical data
• Collaborating with clinical and engineering researchers
• Supervising undergraduate project students, PhD students and more junior post-docs
• Writing journal papers and grant applications
The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
Essential criteria
1. Doctoral degree or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent.
2. Patient-specific biophysical modelling
3. Signal processing in Matlab and Python
4. Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias
5. Presenting scientific research in the form of papers, posters and oral presentations, patents
6. Writing grant applications
7. Experience in constructing computational meshes
8. Experience in student supervision and teaching
9. Organized and systematic approach to work on multiple projects
10. Independent and interdisciplinary researcher
Desirable criteria
1. MRI Image Processing
2. Machine learning
3. Developing methods for clinical translation
4. Experience in image registration
5. Experience in calibrating computational models
6. Project management
