Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Strand, ENGLAND
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Applications are sought from King’s PhD students in mathematical sciences for Research Associate positions, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). This opportunity arises as part of additional EPSRC funding for Mathematical Sciences and the restrictions and limitations are defined by EPSRC. The posts can be for either 6 or 12 months full-time (or an equivalent length part-time). We expect to appoint up to three one-year posts and there will be another call next year. The position will enable you to further develop your own research ideas and can also be used to develop an application for a Fellowship or other independent funding.

Eligibility

You must be, or have been, registered for your PhD at King’s College London and submitted, or expect to submit, between 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022. Your PhD must be predominantly within EPSRC’s Mathematical Sciences remit (please see link below). Your PhD does not have to have been funded by EPSRC, or UKRI, and the scheme is open to both home and overseas PhD students. You must be able to start no later than 1 April 2022. You must have submitted your PhD before starting and ideally will have been examined.

Criteria

Among eligible candidates, the primary criteria are research excellence and a strong career development plan. Subject to this, we will also (across the two-year life of the scheme) try to ensure broad representation across the mathematical sciences. We also particularly encourage applications from those in groups which are underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. Candidates will be selected from the written application.

This post will be offered on  a fixed-term contract for up to one year

This is a full-time / part-time post – 100/50 % full time equivalent

  • Carry out a programme of research to develop an independent research profile
  • Carry out career development activities which will support you in becoming an independent researcher
  • Contribute to the vitality of the department and one or more of its research groups

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Essential criteria

  • PhD in Mathematical Sciences (as defined by EPSRC) from King’s College London, with submission between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022

  • Demonstrate a realistic and ambitious career development plan
  • The ability to communicate research to a broad audience
