We have an exciting opportunity for a Training Manager (PhD) within the Institute for People-Centred AI at the University of Surrey. We’re advancing a new chapter for Artificial Intelligence, putting people at its heart, and augmenting human capabilities to deliver an inclusive and responsible force for good.
Working in partnership with industry, the public sector, government and national AI Organisations, we aim to deliver a step-change in AI Research, training and innovation to deliver the knowledge and skills required to ensure the UK has the top global expertise and fosters the next generation of researchers needed to seize the transformational benefits of AI technology.

You'll play a key part in the design and delivery of the Institute’s training programme and in growing the Institute’s research environment, and will be a key member of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team, providing friendly and customer focused support to our community.

The post holder will play an important role in establishing an ethical training culture for all students, researchers and staff which recognises and values the importance of inclusive and responsible artificial intelligence. The training manager will be responsible for leading the pastoral care of students with the support of the PAI leadership team and members of the Institute.   

Role & Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Institute Directors, leadership team and Training Manager (Online), you'll develop people-centred AI training and education programmes that create an inclusive training culture for all staff and post-graduate PhD research students.

This includes establishment of the Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Digital Media Inclusion, AI training in undergraduate and post-graduate taught programmes across the University and continuing professional development courses. 

Other responsibilities:

  • Contribute to development and delivery of the people-centred AI education and training strategy of the Institute.
  • Manage the design and delivery of doctoral training programmes in people-centred AI for researchers and PhD students across the University conducting AI related research. Manage and maintain relationships with external partners contributing to PhD training, research and funding. 
  • Support student recruitment, induction, training, communication, social events and pastoral-care together with cohort management and training. 
  • Contribute to establishing an inclusive and responsible research training culture for all Institute students and staff. 
  • Support the engagement with external organisations in the development and delivery of education and training programmes.
