The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) is one of the nine University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden (UCM). It is a sub-Department of the University Department of Social Anthropology and is a key resource for University teaching and research, particularly in collaboration with the Departments of Social Anthropology and Archaeology. Its world-class collections attract visiting researchers from all over the world and it maintains an active programme of temporary exhibitions and loans to major exhibitions within the UK and internationally. MAA is seeking to appoint a part-time (0.4FTE) Administration Assistant to work alongside another colleague as a job-share. The responsibilities will be varied, with the postholder taking the lead on certain administrative tasks such as supporting the MAA Friends committee. The role provides administrative assistance to the senior leadership team of the Museum. They will also be required to undertake general duties that are essential to the smooth day-to-day operation of the Museum.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience of working in office administration and excellent administrative skills. These include competence in standard software packages, e.g. Word, Excel and Access. Strong organisational skills and an ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines are also essential. The role holder will need to demonstrate a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy. Excellent attention to detail and very good written and verbal communication skills are essential as well as excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Prior knowledge of the University Finance System (UFS) is not essential but is desirable, as it will assist the successful candidate to navigate systems such as iProcurement successfully. However, training and support will be provided.
The closing date for applications is Tuesday 2 April 2024 with interviews expected to take place on Friday 26 April. It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up the appointment as close to 1 June 2024 as possible.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
