Applications are invited for a full-time Administrative Assistant in the Cambridge Archaeological Unit to start as soon as possible.

The post holder will join the CAU's Administrative team. The Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU) is a self-funding commercial archaeological and research unit, embedded within the Division of Archaeology. Carrying out 50 to 60 projects annually, the CAU is one of the premier archaeological units in the UK.

This is a wide ranging and interesting role in a fast paced and dynamic environment. The post holder will have five main areas of work: they will

(1) Act as Receptionist for the Unit

(2) Assist with Facilities Management

(3) Provide general Administrative, Financial & Logistical support

(4) Provide HR and H&S Admin support

(5) Procure equipment and supplies

The post holder will frequently be the first point of contact for staff, current and potential clients, University staff and students, academic and research staff from other institutions and members of the public and will play a key role in the smooth running of the CAU's administration and procurement.

The successful candidate must be educated to A Level or equivalent with a GCSE English and Maths. They will be proficient in Microsoft Office, databases, digital forms of communication and information systems. They will have the ability to deal with all levels of personnel tactfully, diplomatically and discreetly, maintaining confidentiality at all times and have excellent communication skills. They will have experience of office procedures plus experience of some aspects of recruitment work and / or accounting or procurement. They will show a willingness to keep abreast of changing computer technology and have a proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. While being able to work well in a team, the successful candidate must be able to prioritise and organise their working day.

The post is a full-time, fixed-term post. Funding for this post is available for 12 months from the date of appointment in the first instance.

The post holder will work 36.5 hours a week, preferably 5 days a week, throughout all working weeks of the year. The CAU works Monday to Friday. Please note that there is limited opportunity for hybrid working in this role due to the nature of the Unit's excavation & research commitments and the forward facing nature of the role. For the right candidate, the CAU is also willing to consider part-time work arrangements at 0.8 FTE (28.8hrs / week).
