Part-time Accountant - Teikyo University of Japan in Durham  

Teikyo University of Japan in Durham seeks a pro-active and enthusiastic part-time Accountant from early April 2024 .   Your normal hours of work will cover 3 - 4 days (28 hours per week - 0.8FTE) and involve accountant tasks specified within the attached Job Description.  

Salary: circa £31,249 - £37,492 per annum (pro rata) dependant on experience.  Therefore in the region of £25,000 - £30,000 per annum (£17.17 - £20.60 per hour) – based on 28hrs per week.  

Access to contributory pension scheme.  

MAIN DUTIES:  

1.    To process all the necessary Nominal Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger transactions to enable reporting up to and including Trial Balance, Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reporting on a monthly basis.  

2.    To be responsible for all bank accounts and associated cash books including banking of all monies and monthly reconciliations.  

3.    Ad hoc monthly analysis reports on various financial aspects and managing batch payments using Bankline.  

4.    Raising management reports including forecasting and budgeting.  

5.    Preparation of monthly management accounts like Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and other reports as required.  

6.    Preparing quarterly VAT reports for HRMC.  

7.    Issue of invoices for use of Teikyo facilities and services on a timely basis, consult with the Principal/Bursar on any queries, and chase late payments.  

8.    Year End preparation and reporting.  

9.    Calculating year end pre-payments and accruals and journal posting.  

10.  Maintain fixed assets register and annual depreciation calculation and posting.  

11.  All matters pertaining to Payroll (for processing by outside payroll bureau) and subsequent monitoring to ensure accuracy of payments to employees monthly, including filing and journal posting.  

12.  Dealing with internal and external auditor during annual audit.  

13.  Opening new student accounts and managing accounts for miscellaneous receipts and payments.  

14.  Working closely with Principal/Bursar and providing various inputs for decision making process.  

15.  Liaising and reporting to Teikyo University on financial affairs.  

16.  Performs other duties as assigned that are commensurate with your skills and experience.


 

Person Specification:

A level 3 Diploma in Accounting or equivalent qualification is essential.
