Our Teesside University International Study Centre (ISC) are looking for an Academic Support Tutor to manage and support a caseload of students through the pastoral, welfare and academic student journey, using a range of tools and reporting mechanisms, to promote and secure the progression of students at the Centre. The Academic Support Tutor works to ensure the best possible student outcomes are attained, bearing in mind our ‘Students First’ values and commitment to the holistic wellbeing of each student.

Key scope:

  • Providing personal, pastoral and academic based tutorials at both individual and group level.
  • Monitoring the centre’s Progression and Student Outcomes tracking processes for all students.
  • Working in collaboration with colleagues to provide pastoral and academic support with the aim of achieving the best possible student outcomes.
  • Providing an environment where students have the best opportunity to succeed.
  • ABOUT THE ROLE  

    • Undertake individual tutorials to identify and monitor student progress, through goal setting and action planning.
    • Ensuring student records on progress are reported; kept up to date and are accurate.
    • Continually update and produce “at risk” registers for individual and groups of students.
    • Liaising with academic tutors, identify suitable intervention strategies for improving student performance and reducing the number of students on the “at risk” register.
    • Provide group tutorials as part of the tutorial framework, to include activities such as: study skill sessions (e.g. academic impropriety); understanding assessment regulations in line with Centre academic standards (e.g. personal circumstances; extension); university progression presentations; social activities; liaise with partner University etc for progression; trips and visits.
    • Attendance monitoring, reporting and analysis, through implementation of the Centre’s attendance and engagement policy.
    • Provide students with progression activities throughout the academic year, to ensure students are motivated and engaged in their learning.
    • To facilitate collaboration with Faculty at the University to encourage smooth transition to degree programmes.

    ABOUT YOU  

    • A Bachelor's degree (Essential)
    • Teaching Qualification e.g. PGCE; Certificate of Education; QTS (Desirable)
    • Experience of working with international students (Essential)
    • Experience of providing tutorials at both group and individual level (Essential)
    • Experience of dealing with student pastoral issues and complaints (Essential)
    • Monitoring student progress through action planning (Essential)
    • Providing appropriate social activities to students (Essential)
