Salary: UH8 £44,263pa to £56,021pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience.  

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Main duties and responsibilities

The Programme Leader BA (Hons) Architecture, Senior Lecturer in Architecture will lead the BA (Hons) Architecture Programme, an ARB Prescribed and RIBA validated Programme, one of the main programmes in the Architecture and Design Department.

Architecture is a cornerstone of the School of Creative Arts and the Department of Architecture and Design. The postholder will provide high quality teaching, research and leadership on the Architecture related programmes with a specific focus on the BA (Hons) Architecture and pastoral and academic support for home and international students. They will also be actively involved and lead the PSRBs accreditation process for existing programmes and the development and implementation of future ones. Furthermore, they will be expected to actively engage and contribute to the Architecture+ Research group and other research groups within the University. Given the design-oriented professional nature of the programme, the postholder must possess a strong understanding of design processes, the experience of leading comprehensive design studio modules, the understanding of the most current industry trends and have a strong academic and professional network.

The Programme Leader BA (Hons) Architecture, Senior Lecturer in Architecture will be a member of the School of Creative Arts of the University and will be expected to take an active role in fulfilling the strategic objectives of the University and School, including recruitment, improving student experience, EDI, and promoting an inclusive creative culture. The postholder will uphold the professional ethos of the University and share in the corporate responsibility for the academic wellbeing of all students.  

Skills and experience required

The postholder will possess leadership experience of an Architecture ARB prescribed programme, relevant teaching experience at HE level, and an established academic and professional network. They are expected to already have direct working relationships with the PSRBs (ARB and RIBA) concerning the delivery of Architecture programmes. Additionally, they will demonstrate an understanding of current and future PSRBs developments and their impact on Higher Education, along with a strong grasp of trends in Architecture and the Built Environment, enabling the integration of these into a comprehensive curriculum. Moreover, they will exhibit a strong understanding of design processes in Architecture.

The University has in place a strong Equate Process, which will allow a Senior Lecturer, after successful leadership of the programme and expanding their academic profile, to progress to UH9. 

Qualifications required

Minimum of a Master degree or equivalent Level 7 qualification in Architecture related disciplines, Fellowship of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) or equivalent.
