The Department of Chemistry at Lancaster seeks to appoint a full-time Lecturer to carry out internationally renowned research, and to support the operation and development of teaching at Lancaster. We are particularly keen to recruit individuals who are able to teach areas including inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry.
The Department has a core complement of more than 20 members of academic staff and a thriving community of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students, based in three research groups (Chemical Synthesis, Physical and Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Theory and Computation). We welcome applications that complement our existing strengths and can build on our productive research and teaching collaborations across the University.
You must have a strong track record of conducting internationally-leading original and innovative research, have a portfolio of high-quality research publications, and demonstrate excellent teaching abilities, including the potential to supervise postgraduate students. You should also demonstrate the potential to attract external grant income to support your research from a range of sources, and are expected to be able to participate in group and institutional grant applications.
Additionally, you should have a strong and active interest in teaching of synthetic and/or analytical chemistry as part of a modern degree and demonstrate experience and innovation in teaching.
Research facilities available in the Department include: NMR (including multi-nuclear solution and both 400 and 700 MHz solid state apparatus), EPR, mass spectrometry (including high resolution mass spectrometry), X-ray diffractometers (single crystal (Agilent SuperNova dual Mo/Cu source) and powder), steady state and time resolved fluorescence spectrometers, CD spectrometer, AFM and SEM. This equipment is maintained by a team of experimental officers.
We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
We are actively committed to ensuring diversity in our staff roster, and we particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic scientists for these positions.
Applicants should complete the online application form along with uploading research plans to be pursued at Lancaster University (max 3 pages) and an academic CV (including full publication list). A separate cover letter is not required.
Informal enquiries should be directed to either the Head of Department Dr. Lorna Ashton [email protected]
