Lancaster University’s Quantum Technology Centre (QTC) invites applications for a full-time Experimental Officer to manage the safe running of its cleanrooms and actively support and participate in its business and research activities.

The Lancaster QTC is a nanofabrication, characterisation and measurement facility including epitaxial growth, three cleanrooms, Low-Temperature Physics and Isolab. Its primary objective is to provide a platform to produce outstanding innovations in quantum technologies. It has grown significantly from its foundation in 2013; in the last three years, its research income totalled £15m. Its outputs included approximately 250 high-quality publications and significant real-world impact through its work with commercial organisations and public engagement.

Lancaster University is one of few institutions worldwide to house the facilities and expertise and foster the fusion of fields required to pursue cutting-edge quantum technologies. Its world-class Department of Physics is highly ranked in the UK, regularly appearing in the top 10 in league tables. The QTC houses extensive facilities for the development of novel devices; these include:

•            Electron-beam, direct-laser (maskless) and optical lithography,

•            plasma and atomic layer deposition,

•            electron-beam and thermal evaporators, as well and a sputtering system,

•            dry and wet etching,

•            sample cleaning, preparation and bonding facilities.

Further details about the QTC can be found here - https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/quantum-technology/.

We seek an experienced and enthusiastic nanofabrication specialist with a proven track record who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our cleanrooms and provide high-level support for our postgraduate students, research staff and external clients. Applications will be considered in the first instance from candidates in any area of nanotechnology. Still, preference will be given to those with expertise in dry plasma etching, plasma deposition and electron beam lithography to utilise and build upon our existing research strengths and infrastructure.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Shonah Ion ([email protected]) and Professor Robert Young ([email protected]
