In line with the University’s plans for growth, the Disability & Academic Support service is expanding and has created this new role of Academic Support Tutor to join our dedicated team.

Our aim is to embed disability inclusion practices across the University, and we seek a candidate who is passionate about joining us on this journey.

The role

You will work collaboratively across the Student Welfare Directorate and the broader University, with academic colleagues and the Learning Development Centre.

Teach a range of study skills and learning strategies to students with dyslexia/Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs) both individually and in small groups.

Work in partnership with students’ assigned Disability Advisors, read and interpret diagnostic assessment reports, carry out a thorough review and identify risk to plan appropriate support.

The ideal candidate

Educated to Degree level or equivalent. 

Level 5 Diploma for Teaching Learners with Dyslexia, Specific Learning Differences and Barriers to Literacy (formerly Level 5 Certificate for Teachers of Learners with Dyslexia/ Specific Learning Difficulties)

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (City & Guilds)

You will have in-depth understanding and experience of working with a diverse student population in FE or HE.
