The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies is seeking an experienced research operations and project management professional to support the continued growth of one of Aston University’s leading research institutes.
AIPT is internationally recognised for excellence in photonics research, innovation, education and industrial engagement, with strengths across optical communications, sensing, lasers, biomedical photonics, AI-enabled photonics and neuromorphic systems. As photonics becomes increasingly important to areas such as AI, defence, healthcare, clean growth and digital infrastructure, the Institute is looking to strengthen its operational capacity and long-term resilience.
In this part-time role, you will work closely with the AIPT Director, Deputy Directors, academic leads, professional services and external partners to support the delivery of the Institute’s research, innovation and engagement strategy. You will provide senior coordination across planning, governance, finance, people, projects, communications and reporting, helping AIPT respond effectively to new funding, partnership and strategic opportunities.
A key part of the role will be supporting the development of AIPT’s research and innovation portfolio, including proposal planning, project delivery, stakeholder coordination, risk tracking and impact evidence. You will also contribute to the development of a more structured AIPT Project Management Office model and support the Institute’s communication and visibility activity, including reports, website content, newsletters, event promotion and partner updates.
We are looking for someone with strong experience in managing multidisciplinary research projects and programmes across a wide range of stakeholders, including academics, researchers, doctoral students, professional services, funders, industry partners and external collaborators. You will be confident working in a complex research environment, able to communicate clearly with different audiences, make balanced and well-informed decisions, and manage competing priorities independently.
This is a permanent, part-time appointment at 0.5 FTE, open to internal applicants only.
