Applications are invited to join our growing multidisciplinary and collaborative translational epilepsy research group. We are looking to appoint an outstanding research scientist with expertise in in vivo and/or in vitro electrophysiology to work alongside Professor Gavin Woodhall (PI) on an MRC grant funded project investigating synaptic and network mechanisms underlying temporal lobe epilepsy. This cutting edge, translational research will aim to develop world-first epilepsy models and explore novel treatments. This approach directly addresses the unmet clinical need for rapid intervention in these epilepsies to improve long-term patient outcomes.

You will be expected to perform neurosurgery in rats and record ECoG in vivo, as well as in vitro electrophysiological studies (whole cell patch clamp, local field potential recordings). There will also be an opportunity to develop behavioural skills in the field of rodent cognition and memory testing. Appropriate training will be provided where required  The aim to regularly disseminate high quality research findings, and presentations at local, national and international conference, therefore career development is an integral part of this role.   

You will be a highly motivated individual with relevant in vivo electrophysiology experience and exceptional track records in this field. As well as have a PhD in a relevant neuroscience/biological discipline, we will consider early PhD graduates if the essential techniques of in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology formed an integral part of their doctoral training. A current UK Home Office Personal License (PIL) wouldl be desirable.
