Offer Description

Description

The Date Palm Genome Diversity/Purugganan laboratory in the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research associate to work on evolutionary genomics of date palms.

The successful applicant will conduct computational and experimental research on different aspects of date palm genomics, evolution and developmental/molecular biology.  The work will largely involve acquiring and analyzing large-scale date palm genomic and other omics dataset, and will involve major computational analysis in genomics and systems biology. The person may also be involved in experimental work on different aspects of date palm biology, including (but not limited to) flower development, sex determination, fruit development and tissue culture. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students in coordination with the Purugganan Laboratory in Abu Dhabi and New York.

Applicants must have a PhD in biology or related field.  Excellent experimental and in silico skills relevant to project (in particular genomics and bioinformatics), and experience using these in date palms, are required.

For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Michael Purugganan at [email protected]

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
