The Center for Technology and Economic Development (CTED) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications from individuals to be appointed as a Post-Doctoral Associate for a one-year period, renewable each year. The ideal candidate will commit to work on the project for a period of 2-3 years. The anticipated appointment is expected to start on September 1, 2024.

The Post-Doctoral Associate will play an integral role in supporting the research efforts and data analysis and management for CTED’s projects. Specifically, the individual will conduct research on issues of labor migration, blockchain, and commodities markets under the direction of Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Yaw Nyarko. The ideal applicant will have advanced command of and programming proficiency in statistical software (STATA and Matlab required), have excellent writing  and communication skills, and be knowledgeable of the research projects of CTED. The successful applicant will assist the PI on field research project implementation; conduct data analysis; translate research findings; assist with field work efforts related to the Center’s commodities markets research; and be able to write research reports, concept notes, and academic papers. The candidate will clean, manage, and oversee the analysis of large datasets for field research projects in Ghana, West Africa. Working with the PI, the candidate will provide strategic direction, management, and leadership to the Research Assistant (RA) Team (3-5 members) by tracking team deliverables, providing feedback, and reporting progress to the PI. The candidate will monitor workflow inefficiencies and make recommendations to the PI for improvements for the data management and collection process.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field. Prior management experience as a Senior Research Associate is a plus and strong work ethic and troubleshooting skills are essential for this role. Applicants with advanced experience and knowledge working with STATA and Matlab, and a strong interest in economic and quantitative research, are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a positive, enthusiastic, motivating attitude and demeanor to manage team members. It is preferrable for applicants to have experience conducting field research in emerging countries, especially in rural settings, and working on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Professional experience interacting with farmers, traders, and others in the agriculture value chain will be a plus. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, working autonomously, but as a team member under the direction of the PI. Applicants must be comfortable working in a remote and global team environment.

This position is based in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., and the selected candidate must be willing to relocate. The terms of employment are very competitive. Applications will be reviewed immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
