Offer Description
Description
Prof. Gelfand in the Physics Program, Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on understanding the impact of high-energy astrophysical processes on their surrounding medium and host galaxies. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on projects ranging from the study of individual energetic objects in the Milky Way to the impact Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) on distant galaxies, access to (sponsored) observing time on facilities such as the Las Cumbres Observatory, Green Bank Observatory, and the Very Long Baseline Array, as well as the opportunity to participate in the SDSS-V and HEX-P collaborations (among others). This researcher will also be encouraged to collaborate with other scientists at NYU Abu Dhabi Center for Astro, Particle, and Planetary Physics (CAP3), and have the opportunity to work with graduate and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astronomy, or related field. Demonstration of work on topics related to those mentioned above is required, with a strong preference to those with experience in conducting, reducing, and analyzing spectral line observations (e.g., HI, CO) with either single dish radio telescopes or radio interferometers. This is a 2 year position with a start date of September 2023, with extensions likely possible.
For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests, all in PDF format, as well as arrange for the submission of three reference letters. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Joseph Gelfand at [email protected] . Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled, though all complete applications received before 2023 March 1 will receive full consideration. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children.
