Post-Doctoral Associate in the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 18 Jul 2022

Description

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applicants to apply for the open Postdoc position in the Project Collaborative Brain-Machine Intelligence for Human-Robot Interaction.

CAIR invites qualified applicants with doctorate degree in the areas of electrical, or computer, or mechanical engineering, or related field to apply. A strong publication record is encouraged and previous experience in areas such as Human-machine interaction, Brain-computer interface, Neural interfaces, Human-robot interaction, Autonomous medical robotics, Haptics/telerobotics interfaces, Deep learning, Sensor fusion, and Embedded systems development is desired. The position is open to PhDs with background in robotics, haptics, controls, AI, or related areas. The candidate is expected to work in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary environment with other post-doctoral associates, PhD and undergraduate students, as well as faculty members. It is expected that applicants have a strong publication record in the aforementioned areas.  The applicants are also expected to have strong analytical, communication, and writing skills.

The successful applicant will work on several projects including development of Brain-Machine interfaces and Human-Robot Interaction and related technologies. This will include development of fundamental research to generate a paradigm shift in closed-loop human-robot interaction using neurocognition-based models and architectures through the novel concept of “collaborative brain-machine intelligence” (CBMI). The projects will include: (a) development of novel brain-machine interfaces (BMIs), (b) brain-based neurocognitive architectures for autonomous control of robots, and (c) collaborative intelligent models for facilitating human-robot cooperation in shared workspaces. As part of this work, the successful applicant will work on sensor data processing and data fusion, machine learning, human-machine interfaces, emerging neurocognitive technologies, development of novel hybrid microelectrodes, assistive mobile manipulators, and teleoperated robotic systems. The algorithmic development will need to take into account real-time bidirectional control and information transfer requirements in agile brain-machine interfaces, sensory constraints, various sources of sensory uncertainties and noise, power-efficient implementations for processing and communication of large data volumes, and safety requirements in human-robot interactions. The work will include algorithm design, prototype implementation (e.g., in Matlab/Python), deployment (to embedded computational hardware using the Robot Operating System), and experimental testing.

A solid competency with the standard implementation tools used in robotic and embedded systems (e.g., C, C++, Linux, MATLAB, Python, Robot Operating System) is required.

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, degree transcript, statement of research interests, and at least two letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Professor Mohamad Eid [email protected]  or Antonios Tzes at [email protected] .
