Job Description

United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a full-time Linguistics faculty position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Cognitive Sciences, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, a demonstrable research capability that will enable the candidate to develop and sustain an internally and/or externally funded research program in his/her area of expertise, publish his/her research findings in refereed journals, and actively engage in promoting the growth of the UAEU.

The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, a brief description of current/future research activities, teaching philosophy, and courses taught.

The post will commence in the 2023-2024 academic year, preferably in mid-August 2023.

Compensation includes competitive tax-free salary, off-campus free housing, a comprehensive health plan, education allowance for children, annual return travel to home destination, and an end-of-service gratuity.

The UAEU is located in Al Ain city, in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, on the border with Oman and approximately 1.5 hours’ drive from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi cities.

Minimum Qualification

A PhD in Linguistics or a closely related area is required at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualification

While the area of specialization is open, we would strongly encourage applicants who specialize in empirical and interdisciplinary linguistics research. The capacity to collaborate with other colleagues within our Department and teach courses outside the area of specialization will be welcomed.

English is the medium of instruction at the UAEU, and the successful applicant should demonstrate native/excellent command of written and spoken English. The ability to speak/write Arabic is not required.

Expected Skills/Rank/Experience

The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the BA program in General Linguistics, and if required, linguistics courses offered by the General Education program. Other faculty responsibilities such as conducting research and fulfilling administrative duties at the Department/College level are also needed. UAEU is a research-intensive university and the successful applicant is expected to have a well-defined research program commensurate with rank.
