The aim of this subject is to provide students with an understanding of the advanced techniques required for power systems calculations and analysis.

Topics covered in this subject include: an introduction to power systems comprising thermal and hydro power stations; transmission lines and distribution systems; computer applications in power systems planning; design, control and operation; review of basic analysis tools; reactive power management; load flow and fault analysis; and transient stability.
