Job title: Postdoc (in French: premier·ère assistant·e)

Start date: March 1, 2024 (earliest)

Duration of contract: 1 year, 1 year renewable, maximum 2 years

Activity rate: 80-100%.

Location: Géopolis building, UNIL-Mouline, Lausanne, Switzerland

Description of research / Your activities

In our research group, we work on multiple energy related themes with an interdisciplinary socio-technical perspective and use methodologies developed within the field of Science and Technology (STS) to provide insights on the co-production of the changing energy system by cultural, political, epistemic, material elements and practices. The successful Postdoc candidate will have the opportunity to work in multiple projects as well as developing his/her own research. These projects include IEA (International Energy Agency) Users TCP Social License to Automate, CONNECT (Responsabiliser les COmmuNautés d’éNErgie solaire pour l’aCTion collective) supported by local actors, SWEET LANTERN (Living labs iNTerface for the Energy tRansitioN). Depending on the background and interests of the successful candidate, the specific research topics could be:

  • Public engagement, energy citizenship, discourses, socio-technical imaginaries.
  • Sustainability experimentation: Investigating Living Lab methodologies and governance of Living Labs with local stakeholders, forming a new Living Lab in Lausanne.
  • Methodologies and impact assessment in transdisciplinary research as part of Living Labs.
  • Analysing epistemic and practical diversity in processes of innovation in social- practices.
  • Institutional and policy studies.

The position also includes teaching support tasks such as preparing and marking assignments, and co-supervising Bachelor's and Master's students.  The postdoc is also invited to give one or two lectures in connection with his/her research. He/she may also be involved in a Bachelor's course (energy systems) and/or a Master's course (governance of energy transformations). Depending on the post doc position, the successful candidate will devote at least 60% of his/her working time to personal research projects, with the remainder devoted to teaching, project development and grant applications.

Your profile

In order to qualify for the position, the candidates are required to have:

  • Have obtained or are about to obtain a PhD degree (please indicate expected date of defense) in geosciences (geography, environmental sciences), in Science and Technology Studies or another social science discipline focusing on energy policies, innovations and energy-related socio-technical transformations;
  • Proven knowledge of energy policy; Sciences and Technology Studies (STS); socio-technical transformations; energy and innovation;
  • Good knowledge of qualitative methods (e.g. interviews) are expected and quantitative methods (e.g. techno-economic) would be an asset.
  • Language skills in French and English are expected.
