Bone Sarcoma Research Laboratory, Balgrist Campus, University of Zurich
Technician / Lab Manager
100 %

The laboratory of Didier Surdez (Bone Sarcoma Research Laboratory) at the University of Zurich is looking for a technician / lab manager in the field of cancer cell biology, high throughput screening and preclinical models.
The group studies bone sarcoma and in particular Ewing sarcoma, the second most frequent bone tumor of childhood and adolescence. We recently highlighted how recurrent STAG2 mutations favor invasive/metastatic properties of Ewing sarcoma (Surdez et al. 2021, Cancer Cell) and facilitate the transformation of its cell of origin (Sole et al. 2021, Cancer Res). The laboratory is currently developing projects to decipher and prevent metastasis mechanisms in sarcoma and to identify novel vulnerabilities based on screening approaches using faithful sarcoma models.
Your responsibilities
You will develop new research projects and contribute to different ongoing research projects of the group (80-90%). In particular, you will develop and optimize genetic-, compound- and peptide-based screenings in 2/3D cellular models (including tumor derived and PDX models). In addition, you will be responsible to organize and manage the research laboratory as well as contributing to general duties (10-20%).
Your profile
  • Bachelor or Master degree in life science, ideally with several years of research experience
  • A solid background in cell culture and molecular biology techniques
  • In vivo experimentation with mice (LTK 1 or equivalent)
  • Dynamic, team player and good communication and organizational skills
  • Solid knowledge in English and ideally also in German (not mandatory)

What we offer
We are a dynamic and growing team implementing cutting-edge research and developing tomorrow's treatments against pediatric, adolescent and young adult bone sarcomas. You will work alongside other lab members (PhD, Post-doc). The position is secured by institutional funds with a competitive salary, and we offer a future-oriented work environment with attractive employment conditions. You will benefit from a modern campus with state-of-the-art infrastructures.
